Got a perfect day to run the 1500 on the lake today.

Moved up from 70.3mph to 73.8mph GPS. Ran very well. 6800RPM

Im going to raise it up 1 more inch and see if I can break 75mph on Friday if the weather is good.

Now that's what you call a great day on the lake! I think if you go too much more you won't have ANY of that boat in the water! Great pics thanks for sharing.

Looks good Conrad. Not much of that hull wet at 73. 75 is flyin'. Be safe, but enjoy.

Im not saying this to point out a mistake, but its time to gear up there buddy , & you will make 75mph

Im also guilty
I ran my D class hydro down the river with no jacket or helmet yesterday....on the turn around I passed a deadhead that I didnt see at WOT, it was only 6 inches out of the water but, at 70mph!!....makes me think my recklessness...jeesh

Judging by the prop patterns in the rooster tail you are pretty much surfacing completely, don,t be surprised if you drop some with an inch higher. What prop are you running? Sweet pic, looks stable too, not skittish. Nice. :cheer:

Dave, Its a 26 Merc Cleaver. I wish I had a 28 to try quick, cause Im running out of RPM to work with :) Right now the prop shaft is 2 inches below the boat plane surface. So quite a bit of the prop is out.

Everyone else:

Safety, anybody know of another good vest except lifeline? Lifeline's are $$$$$$

Just modified the jack plate to allow the motor to go up 2 more inches. The prop shaft is able to be level with the bottom of the boat now.

Wishing you the best Conrad in your quest for speed. A 28" cleaver should be readily available somewhere - Scream & Fly web?

28" Mazco prop on Minneapolis Craigslist:

Yeah I find them, but Im stuck trying to get a 1.78 gear ratio lower unit put together right now.

I need to fix a short drive shaft before I can use it. I keep dragging my feet getting it done.

Once that is done I can use all my props that I currently run on the 2-1 gear foot

Only the 1.78 should go faster, if I can pull it. I have a great 25 pitch cleaver that would be simply awesome with the 1.78 gear foot. The math shows around 77 MPH with that combo @6500RPM :)

That cleaver is nice but 15 inches. I can handle a max of 14.25 inches. 14 is better and 13.75 even better.

Madprops,

Yeah I saw that lifejacket. $400 used is still high for my paygrade. I would think someone could make a good jacket for under $200.

A lifeline jacket and a good helmet are worth more than my whole boat.

Yes, did not notice the "15", thought it meant splines. Another 28" cleaver prop:

But for $350, you want to make sure it is right.

I raised the motor 2 more inches. Prop shaft level with bottom of boat. Held 5 psi until I hit 65 mph then for some reason it bumped up to 10 psi at WOT running 73. Was a bit irratic. Lowered the prop shaft 1 inch below bottom of boat and had same thing. I used smaller scoops that were half as long. Kida worked, but really need to make a good one that works on all the holes again.

I got to 73 several times even 73.5 but I was slipping the prop when I trimmed up a long ways and no more gain of speed. The boat seemed to ride tighter to the water too. I like the motor this high, really feels good BUT!!

I found out today what it feels like when the prop gets too high and it starts paddle wheeling the rear of the boat around and trys to swap ends icon_crazy.gif

MAN :!: what weird feeling. You loose your sense of control and the boat feels like its skidding out on ice. The boat started skidding sideways just a few degrees, but enough to make you pull the trottle back and trim in. I though I was going to dump it , but it came back straight.

Im going to keep the boat in the shed until I get the 1.78 gearcase done, and I get better gear on. No sense over revving the motor or getting hurt until I take the next step.

few photos. One of me skidding a bit. Hard to tell the the photo. ANd the other show the prop height, you can see under the cav plate.
