Well its all torn apart... Got spark finally, but cant get the water pump apart.... its one that needs a spanner with 4 lobes and is set into the LU... any suggestions... what direction to turn it to take it apart? etc... also the water tube came out with the lower.... cant seem to see the hole it goes in from below any ideas on how to get it back where it belongs?

Did the controls come with it?
Is the prop nut/cone plastic or metal?
I have both and am not sure what the plastic actually came on.
Looks like the cav. plate is still intact. These little guys that I have been finding have all had holes from po's putting the stabilizers on them.
Kinda odd that the steering springs are at the motor.
Any ways, keep us posted with this little Merc.
It really wants to run again, I can hear it whispering!!

Here is my latest little guy with the all white faceplate.
It has a broken front emblem. It has an extra tube in the front to accept the larger diameter steering rod.
I got it and controls for $38 bucks. You may have seen the post here.

It amazes me how you get these deals lol, No no controlls, and it has a brass prop with a plastic cone. I got the magneto going last night, it was just corroded points, so tonight its carb time! then I will see if it will fire off. I have the waterpump soaking in WD40 I made a tool last night to take the pump apart but no go lol it wouldnt budge so I will let it soak and work on the powerhead for now. Thats a nice little 300! Mines not so clean nor as cheap lol.

I thaught about that but a previous owner messed these up fairly good in that way.... so I made a tool with 4 small bolts that fits on it nice made it out of aluminum as to not mess up the pump too much but the aluminum didnt hold up so I will turn a merc special tool style one latter this week then I have it... And who doesnt want to play with the Lathe and Mill any how! lol not great at using them but can manage.

Ok Got the Pump replaced and lower unit back on and changed the timing a tad and vroooom she starts right up and sounds great stays nice and cool but cant get the tell tale cleared out enough to do more than drip... I may have to pull the power head and exhaust cover to clear that one out... Now I really need to get a short transom boat going... Cleaned up nice also.

since its dripping should be able to get it flowing again....blow compressed air into the pee hole, if that wont do it get a syringe or turkey baster and squirt some muriatic acid(pool cleaner) up in there if its dripping its possible the acid will clean it out by dissolving the minerals...same as cleaning plugged showerhead
saved me some work a couple times

Neils, Work on his 55 got me thinking.. I have this little guy apart as I needed to clean out the telltale and I should repaint the old girl. Now I was not sure is a Mark 35A a color match to be a ford wimbeldon white? Could some one chime in and let me know the proper color to paint the old girl? its going to go on my utility racer I think..

Thank you All, Professor that seems to be an easy readily available color on a quick search. Does any one know the actual paint code? for Cloud white if I were to try to get it mixed? Its easy enough to say cloud white on the container but it may not be the same company to company. I will likely just go with the 60's ford whimbledon.

So not perfect but not bad, I didnt paint the portion of the mount with the ID tag as I didnt want to try to mask that off while stripping paint or trying to rerivet it if I took it off.. Looking ok for my first repaint on a white Merc. Used the Duplicolor Whimbelton White.

Now if my gaskets come I can reassemble the rest of the motor and store it away for the spring..

Looks good Jesse. I like the stainless bolts against the white on the motor mount covers. I sand off the white and primer over the stripes and words dyna float to bear aluminum and then clear coat over them. Gives the mount covers that extra zing.
I find that the rivets for the ID plate will pull out pretty easily. Once it is off clean it with mild soap so not to loose any paint of info then when I put it back with a tiny bit of silicone or adhesive I set it back in place and again with the adhesive or silicone re install the rivets into the holes.

Thanks Jim, I just didnt want to mess up the plate on this one as the paint isnt too bad on that part and its really close in color to the ford white. I will play with the plate on a parts motor and see how it comes off for my next project. I was trying to decide what to do on the Dyna float covers, I can always change them latter to match what paint I use on the boat. Thanks!
