TOPIC: pee tube - no pee!

pee tube - no pee! 13 years 4 months ago #35449

Took the boat to Silver Lake 1st weekend of the month, motor worked fine, port side lower water, starboard side pee tube. 1st time out since then, water out of the port side lower, nothing from the pee tube. So no water getting to the top of the powerhead? I put a new impeller in a year ago.

What sort of a sequence of tests should I go through?

Thanks for any help!

Frank

Probably just plugged, seen it many times. Stick a piece of wire in there running and see if crud will bust loose..

Where would I stick the wire specifically? In the LU?

Thanks!

I believe Robby is talking about where the pee tube comes out of the lower cowl, or pan, Frank. You can also unhook the hose from the fitting you screwed into the top of the block to blow it out, if needed. (More work, pulling the top cowling, but you may need to check that hose anyway. May have rubbed a hole in it?) Is water coming out the exhaust in the prop? (When running.)

Frank my 50's Teltale has been clogged by Mud dobber wasp nests every time I have been out this summer I just carry some thin wire with me and when I start it up at the dock I wiggle it around in there untill water starts coming out again.

What I need to find out is where I wiggle a wire around, and/or, where I can position a blow tube to blow anything out. Pics would be very helpful, or a better description. I'm tight for time today, maybe tomorrow I can play with it. I have not yet removed the bonnet to check the top of the hose, but will. As you know, that takes some time on these old in-line 6 mercs! From removing the wrap-around cowling, the tube looks fine, and it was attached securely up top, as I could not pull it off.

Thanks for the help guys, I need it!

Frank,

I have had to do this many times(twice in the last two weeks with new "old" motors I picked up. I have two foot long piece of light gauge wire(green invisible dog fence wire actually). I bare about 1/8th inch of the copper core and put a hook into it...really small almost closed on itself so as to not get easily hung up. Then just start twisting and wiggling until you get it all the way to the water jacket(or block). I have also used a power washer to surge up the tube. Careful though...don't try it while you hold it with your fingers....I gave myself the old Chinese bamboo treatment by driving the water under my finger nail....it really hurt.

Good luck.

Every time I have had mine out this summer I have had to clear the teltale with a pice of thin stainless kayak rudder cable very thin Stuff. Its been muddobber Wasps for me each time. when its running I get it to start flowing then keep poking around to get it all clear.

I wish someone could do a shot of where I stick this wire, or a diagram or give me a more detailed explanation. I'm still at a loss, and eager to try something. Once I get it, I will not bug anyone again, honest, just need some directions.

Thanks guys.

Frank,

I used a piece of weed whacker line and push it up the pee hole: where the pee is supposed to come out.

My 40 hp was peeing fine 2 months ago, next time out, it was clogged. Ran the line up it and there you go: nice pee coming out!
