TOPIC: Carb Float Tip

I just thought I would pass along a tip I figured out while tearing off the carbs of my 1500 for the 3rd time trying to figure out a sticking float problem. I had new needles seats floats etc. And I would still get a random flooding issue.

Well it turned out to be accessive play in the two arms that the float pushes on to cut off fuel via the needle. The arms would wiggle side to side enough to catch on the the posts that the arms mount to rendering the whole system useless.

I fixed it by crimping down the pivot ends a bit on the arms. Dont do too much, there should be no resistance in these arms on the axle they ride on. But after I tightened them up a bit they cannot move side to side enough to get jammed on the mounting posts.

So this is something else to check when assembling your carbs push those arms over and see if they grab anything.

I now have had a trouble free motor Any one else experience this?

Probable cause:

Timely post for me, I am finishing up on a 74 1500 complete restoration/rebuild. Carbs are disasembled, cleaned and ready for reassembly.
