TOPIC: Carbs: 1978 Merc 1400

I haven't gotten my manuals for this engine yet..

Could someone scan me the pages on rebuilding the fuel pump, and Carbs? photos/pdfs are fine..
I have cable so big files are OK..

Is there a " running issue " with the motor or is this preventive maintenance.

running issue...
I'm doing a major tune-up.. and decided to "do it all" at the same time. This motor is "new-to-me". I've done the compression test and ran it (on the lake) on the bass-boat before purchase. 42MPH @ 4100rpm @ 2/3rds throttle.

I am rebuilding the fuel pump and saw lots of "original" hoses internally. So, I decided to do all the hoses, carbs, and fuel pump..

I want an ORIGINAL Service Manual, but that's $$ I don't have right now. (Unless someone wants to trade for several OMC Manuals)

I have already disassembled the carbs and Fuel pump and there is nothing to them.. I am a profession antique auto restorer.. but wanted to have the scans in case there was something "special" to look out for...

The carbs were spotless- but the upper tended to "dribble" gas if I pumped the bulb. I figured the needle or float was stuck or had trash in it. The lower (2) carbs had all-steel needles, but the upper needle had a neoprene tip... That needle stuck pretty hard when the carb was momentarily inverted. I think the neoprene tip was an older non-alcohol resistant type. It felt pretty "sticky" when I cleaned/inspected it, and some black residue remained in the seat and come off the needle on my fingers.

Carburetors on those are pretty simple, nothing special at all.

Check the bleed inserts ( inside bypass covers ) on the intake side of the block, there are 5 inserts in total.

My bet is some are missing.
