TOPIC: Merc 850

Got a question guys.
This is a 850 right?
Serial that was given to me was 4887850.
Can someone verify?
These are the two bad pics I got.
I am thinking 1964.
The ser.# has got me stumped. It does not match the pictures.
Even it this were a white motor painted black, the # is still kooky.
But of course I still want it no matter what the heck it is.
It is 2 hours from me and I will have to go check it out.

Yes Neil it looks to be a 1964 850. That year only they made the 850 in ALL black. The 1962 and 1963 850 were white.
That serial number is for something WAYY newer, probably mid 70's motor.

1964 is the 25th Anniversary of Mercury outboards. Every 1964 motor has (25 years of Progress) written on the front faceplate with two checkered flags.
