TOPIC: 50hp crankcase

50hp crankcase 13 years 6 months ago #30616

hi, i am splitting a 1967 50 hp crankcase. when i removed the crankcase cover the crankshaft came out with it and i am having trouble separating them. i did remove the main bearing screw and i don't see anything else that could be holding it. any suggestions? also, is there a special type of piston ring compressor used on these?
thanks

You removed all the bolts ( 3 of them )for the reed cages / main bearings ??
Special ring compressors are used, sometimes available on E-BAY

There are special Merc designed ring compressors.
I'm pretty sure the smaller motors - like your 44 ci would use a smaller set of ring compressors than the medium sized 76-90ci 4&6 cylinder and the larger set for the 99ci like a 1500, etc.
I believe there was a helpful post here not too long ago that folks shared alternative ideas when the Merc compressors aren't available.
Maybe someone can track down that post and related replies??
