When I asked him to get some pics of it or the seriel # he said ok.
Well I got neither. I will ask him again tonight.
Hope it is a 58, but if it is a 55, thats ok too.
He also said that the controls are there somewhere.
What the heck, it's a Merc, right?

Mk 55's didnt have shocks just like the MK 75's didnt. I bet is a 1958-59 MK 58. Without the top cowling it could be a few MERC models like 400 or a 500 too. But most of them had the chrome band on the lower cowling.

Good eye Conrad, I just got confirmation, it is a 58.
I had to laugh when I talked to him. He said "Now that you know what it is for sure, is it something that you would be interested in?"
I am thinking my goal should be to get one of every Mark, what do you think?

It would be indeed Bob. And I am focused and well on my way.
But,,,,,I may be digging a hole I don't want to be in.
I had a guy that I did not even know call me and ask about parts.
Word of mouth, travels fast. YUKKKK
The collection is safe in my rural area, but I don't want to deal with the general public as a warehouse for old Merc stuff. The only sharing I want to do for now is right here.

I wanted to collect them all at one point too. But I have very limited space so I gave up on that idea. I did wind collecting one from each Cubic Inch Class. From 4 cyl up. But I sold my MK 30 and I never have found a 76 cube 6

I got 40, 44, 60, 66, 89, 93, and 99 inch motors. Sounds like a Johnny Cash song.

I can imagine Thom (DrFrankemerc) singing that song in his shop as he works :) :)

Well, It's a '49, '50, '51, '52, '53, '54, '55,
'56 '57, '58' 59' frankenmerc.....
