TOPIC: Mark20H gas tank decals

Mark20H gas tank decals 13 years 7 months ago #29946

1) Does anyone have a good picture of the yellow decal on the 20H gas tank?
I don't see where nymarine has this specific decal and I'm hoping to get enough information to have him duplicate an original for me.

2) Does anyone know if the early OMC pressure tank diaphragm kit will work on the old Merc pressure tanks?
I understand there are (2) types of OMC diaphragms - one with an aluminum plunger and one with a plastic button. The plastic buttom type is clearly different, but I'm having no joy trying to get the top off an older aluminum plunger style OMC tank to check.

3) And,...Does anyone know a PPG single stage color match for the gas tank red???
Thanks!
Thom

And for the life of me, I can't remember the diff, plastic/metal. Can't find nothing in the files. Maybe see ya later this week too. Email ya later.

OH yeah, good luck trying to find a match on paint. I rebuilt a couple OMC tanks, sold Ebay, and the best match found was still too "red"

I asked & got your answers Doc

The yellow decal was a dealer sticker
the color is the same on all the Merc tanks.

Dupli-color engine enamel #DE1605 Ford red. Also use the clear coat #DE1636

www.nymarine.ca/MERCGTANK.html for decals.

Thom, we had both johnson and Mercury pressure tanks growing up, both had the aluminum plunger. I do recall that I could not repair my merc tank with the Johnson parts.

Thanks everybody!
Very helpful indeed!!!
Peter at nymarine said he would duplicate the yellow dealer's sticker if anyone has a good picture and measurements of one, but it sounds like I don't really need it for the restore.
Thanks again,
Thom

Sierra Marine part number for a 50 ft roll is 18-8051, but I'll bet NAPA would have a per foot price.
I see that West Marine offers it up at $2.49 per foot.

Here is a link to this item at West Marine:

www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_11151_10001_95371_-1?cid=chanintel_google&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=95371

Here is another place with it for sale by the foot @ $2.09 per foot.

www.firstchoicemarine.com/showproduct.aspx?ProductID=21239&SEName=sierra-fuel-line-hose-18-8051

I contacted my local NAPA and they said that it would be by the 50 ft roll through them. Not sure if that would be the response from every NAPA though.

Ford Red 1605, thats what I used on my OMC tanks. Seemed awful red, but then again, the years of sun on all, has faded every old tank.

Thom, I got 1/2 can left here, what me to drag it to ya to check?

Messed around today Thom, paint. Like said on the "1605 Ford Red", seems too .."red". And I know I can never do the paint original, decades ago old metal Pressurized tanks. And like said, what new color to yer eyes from then new, is not many remembered anyway, years in the sun, the tanks we see now. Remember that Merc tank I gave ya, the "yellow one"? Asked when the heck did Mercs do yellow tanks? You slapped me upside the head, and said.."its FADED from the sun! dumbass! HA!
Anyway, heres a pic, a bottom of a coffee can painted today. Did both Ford Red 1605, and Dupli-color Engine paint too..Chev Orange. Its a DE 1607 Chev. Orange. The left side is the Chev paint, right side Ford red. the 1607, has some that classic "faded orange", but again, I'm not a "restore to perfection type"..just like stuff that looks good, and works, and runs.
Anyway, Thom, getting more stuff the .."care package", bring what mentioned, you decide. Heading you soon. BS then. Be well all..start saving up extra bucks for gas, forget the paint! Robby

Dr. Frankenmerc,
Will the OMC duel fuel line work OK on these Merc tanks.? The old original Merc duel fuel line has two different diameters.
Thanks, in advance
Dave

I was just going to put same size fittings at each end - I dunno if it would cause a volumn or air pressure issue or not???
Anybody??

they were different sizes so you would not hook them up wrong.

Re:Mark20H gas tank decals 13 years 7 months ago #30124

Thanks, Dave that answers that question for me. I have OMC line. I guess it would be easy to hook up the lines wrong if you weren't paying attention. I just thought it was Carl's sense of humor to be different than OMC.

Re:Mark20H gas tank decals 13 years 7 months ago #30128

Thom, the fuel line has to be the biggest one if you have the dual line joined in the middle, one small one larger. If the air line gets too big it will not pressurize the tank. The pressure pulse would get lost in the volume of the line.
