I am not necessarily saying that this is that motor (although it is a candidate; Mark 55E mechanically restored by Dr. Frankenmerc, aesthetically restored by yours truly with help from Peter at NY Marine), I am saying the mid to late fifties Mark engines are the most beautiful engines ever produced.
As a designer, I am always looking for beauty in our everyday lives. I believe the combination of the stainless wrap and the rich colors associated with these motors, along with great lines and perfect balance make this motor one of the best designed ever.
What do you think?

I have a 56 MK 55 Manual. It is the Green one. I like the Sunset Orange one better. (red)

Yep, although I like the IL6 (I could stare at an XS for hours..wish I never sold mine, and the old Switzer) but saw your motor last at the "Doctors", and its a beauty!

As much as I like the Mark 55, I have to give the nod to the 1954 Mark 20H. The green & gold - perfection...

Beautiful, I love the Mark 20-25's. Thom A is mechanically restoring my Mark 25 as we speak. I hope he will post a pic of his Mark 25E, a stunner!

My Brother has a 54 Mark 20 we are working on. I gave him an original gas tank for it. We need a source for the two line gas hose and need to know what rattle can paint that will match (Merc Red) tank.
He has all the controls for it too. We hope to put it on my 14' Mirror Craft fish boat.
Right now I have my Mark 55 on it But will take it off so we can run the Mark 20.
Oh Yea, Where would be a good source for a water pump impeller? I told him not fire up the motor until we replace it.

That indeed is a beautiful motor. The sternlight really sets it apart also.
Here is one of my favorite smaller Mercs.
And although not in authentic color, here is my favorite big Merc.
This one is mine.

Im partial to the early MK55 models, but the sweeties on steroids, the "H"(hydro) models

I just put new rings bearings etc. in the early 1955 mk55 black annodized block, of course I couldnt re anodize it black myself so I painted it a semigloss black to resemble the black anodizing.
this is no saw horse queen I run this motor 2-3 times a week in the summer, blew it up last summer at about 70mph

Neil the decals on your Cloud White 59 model are backwards..sorry

I have to agree....if you look closely under the white paint on my avatar, that is a 1954 Mark 20H, green and gold. What did I know, I was only a kid and the "new" ones were white. Still went like stink on that mini max hydro.
