Guys
My wife is in Wis. on vacation helping her mother move into a new home.
She is cleaning out the basement and ran across a KD4 Kiekhaefer.
How cool. Seriel says 46-47 model year.
She would like to have me make a fair offer.
What do you think?
She is a Rocket.

3rd edition of Hunn's old outboard book shows a KD4 in condition 2 (complete, needs work to run) at 75.00. Since this was a few years ago, $100 would be fair, hoping it doesn't need major repairs. Some would offer more, some less. Depends on how much you want it. Many prices are inflated by sentiment or greed, deflated by the need to "get rid of that old thing!" I recently paid $75 for a Wizard 10 that will need coils and an impeller (at least) to run again. But I like the motor, and consider it worth the money.

Thanks Kerry
I was thinking in that range also. But like you say, greed and sentiment.
This has been in a basement since 1951. This was my father-in-law's who passed away 8 years ago and now my mother-in-law is house cleaning/moving. That puts it in a little different light, although both parties still have to live with the transaction.
It will end up more ornament than anything.
I will keep all here posted.
Thanks again.

I snagged my KD-4S in 2006 for $100.
The 'S' model has a rewind rather than a rope start set up.
It belonged to a friend's father who had bought it new and used it once - discovering he didn't enjoy fishing like he thought he would.
I contacted aomci and explained the condition.
They suggested $100 so that was what I paid.
I've seen a nice looking one on eBay with a $200 starting bid and no bids were made.
My only concern is whether or not things are damaged inside due to ambient moisture that would cause the needle bearings to etch the crankshaft.
I will probably never attempt to start it without peeking at the crankshaft - and probably won't ever do that.
I often wonder if the factory spray painted the spark plug wire and rewind handle the same dull aluminum as the rest of the motor or if someone played with a rattle can sometime in its past. Anybody know the answer??
I would like to find a KD-3S, the matching single cylinder with a rewind, but I'm probably too much of a tight-wad to ever spring for one.
