TOPIC: Power head removal

Power head removal 14 years 2 months ago #25874

Going to take off the power head to replace the pan gasket and to simplfy a test mounting this 63 1000 to an early eighties PTT. If i look at the books and the motor, looks like I need to remove these bolts....and likely one or two I didnt see during my cursory look see...and disconnet this shift shaft....any tricks or pit falls I need to be watching for?

this is a 63 Merc 1000 yes? Are you thinking of taking the entire mid and placing it onto the mid eighties swivel and transom mount with the integral T&T? I swapped an early 70's 115 to a mid eighties by spinning the bottom (lower) motor mounts around it was fairly straight forward to get it done. You can't put the power head on the mid eighties mid because the exhaust ports are different than the early Merc's. You may or may not already know that so I hope I am not blabbering.....
