TOPIC: Mark35A starter current draw

Mark35A starter current draw 13 years 9 months ago #24515

Might not be an easy question, but I'm wondering if anyone has a good idea of what the current draw is on a 1959 Mercury Mark 35A.

The reason is I'm building a boat to showcase the engine and will be running battery extension cables underneath the floorboards to locate the battery under the front deck.

I would like to put a circuit breaker on the 'hot' feed in case the cables ever short together. Trouble is I want to make sure whatever circuit breaker I get has ample capacity to allow the starter to operate properly.

Just don't have easy access to an inductive ammeter right now.

I lengthened my cables on a 1960 400. I added approx 6 feet of thick welder cable to do the job. Even the fine braided welder cable made the starter sluggish at that length. They had one size bigger, I think 0 gauge. I would have gotten that next time to do the job.

Amp load I have no Idea?
