So I place a WTB on Craigs, looking for a 1967 and I get a few replys. I look at the first one after he tells me it's a 67 and the serial number indicates 66.The engine is solid with 130 readings on all 4,needs a impeller and comes with new tank and controls.Tell him I will call back. Second guy tells me he has a 68 and I figure at this point it's close enough year wise and has the updated ignition, so I take the 1 hour ride. The guy has about 10 engines and 15 motorcycles including a Super Hurricane 10 hp Q model,he has a mill and metal lathe among other desirable equipment in his workshop[why second guess him about the year after seeing his setup, right? wrong!] The electrical harness male ends have the three smaller post broken off, tells me the PO before him yanked the harness off without removing the holding bracket.Anyway he lowers the price by 100 and throws in 3 sets of disassembled controls.I get home never checking the serial number and it's a 1966.I wanted the newer ignition system that they started in 1967.Upon further reading into it,the big pain is the points that should be done every 100 hours and in my case that would be about 7 years,so no big deal.I called up the first guy and told him I was going to buy it. I figure for grand total of 550$ a back up would be the way to go with some parts being pricey on them. So do you think that was the way to go and does anyone have a 5 pin engine harness kicking around? Don't want to part it out untill I have to.
