TOPIC: old 350 merc shifter shaft question

hello,

How can I tell if I have reinstalled the lower unit correctly, as it relates to getting the position of the shifter shaft correct. Talking about the shift shaft and the upper and lower cam positions.
it seems very hard to change to the forward neutral and reverse positions
or maybe someone could recommend a link to a good video to watch

ok I decided to pull the lower unit off again because I felt the shift shaft was not working correctly almost would not move at the control box
so when trying to turn the lower shift shaft there is a spot where the shaft turns at least 180 degrees with just using my fingers. And when i do turn it with a ratchet i can not find the forward position

BIG thank you to David Barnard for walking me thru getting the lower unit on correctly. not broken just needed someone that knows what they are doing.

now do i risk getting it in the water and see if my repairs keep it flowing and the motor running

Run it on the trailer first. on a hose or back it in the water run it before launching.
