well, as it turned out this is NOT the end of the story!!
Thanks to tip from ed-mc2 I am getting KD-4 off Craigslist that looks very promising - it's complete for once, has not run in years but the owner thinks that it is restorable. According to a serial number motor was made in 1947. I don't know anything about this motor other than looks incredibly COOL

Need to get a parts list so I can see what this thing looks like inside

I will have the motor in two weeks !!
.......that will be a week away from the winter (spring ??) solstice .....days will start getting longer already - I need to make sure that I have the motor ready for the summer !!
