TOPIC: New Old Mercs

Hey All,

Got a fix this morning for you Merc junkies.

Recently I posted at the Wood Boats forum, regarding the plywood Thompson, a shot of an Owens with a new Merc at the Chicago Chicago Boat Show.



I met on Sunday with the family of the founder of Bonds Boat Yard which was located on the North branch of the Chicago River. They shared lots of old photos and scanned them all for me.

This is one of my favorites at the Chicago Boat Show in 195?



Looks like the it was taken before the show opened but I’d bet E.C. is nearby.

I do have more and will share. Would be good to know exactly what year and one of the Old Merc guys should be able to pinpoint by the models on display. I want to say 57 or 58 although I dont see a Mark 78 which I believe was new in 58.

Notice the steering wheel mounted on the display board which E.C. patented in 57.





Also Speedliners had fins in 58 and these are finless?

Better yet the decals on the motors are 1958.

Redo the decals were 56 and 58 strait 57 were wave. But the emblem IS 56 58 had the oval. sorry my mistake.
