TOPIC: trying to identify inline 6 hp and year

trying to identify inline 6 hp and year 7 years 9 months ago #130072

hi i recently bought a motor for the power tilt, but when i looked a little closer at it when i got home the motor looked pretty good so i figured i would try starting it, well she fired right up and it sounded good and it idles nice. the issue i have is trying to figure out the hp and year so i can order the correct powerhead to exhaust plate gasket. the wrap has a blue stripe decal which is peeling and i can see an older decal under it. the serial # plate on the midsection is missing. The carbs are stamped KC 14A which i found out were used on 1968 and 69 1000ss. The exhaust extension plate is stamped 52932 which was used on the 68 and 69 1000ss, so i am hoping gurus can help me.

should be a # like 2313422 look on the top rear of the exhaust or the starter bracket or the crankcase seam on the fuel pump side.

The ebay item id given is invalid, no result has been sentIt's a 100hp. It doesn't have the convoluted distributor linkage you'd see in a 1250.

Here are some parts diagrams for your 1000SS:

www.marineengine.com/parts/mercury-outboard-parts/1000ss

1969 serial numbers for the 1000SS started with 2484633 so your motor would be a 1969.

Here's your gasket, 27-47257:

www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=MER27-47257

You'll note it matches up very nicely to the bottom of your powerhead.

At least they're still available and cheap! Many of the older gaskets are becoming NLA and extremely difficult to find old stock.

If you prefer eBay, here's a few:
