TOPIC: getting somewhere

getting somewhere 8 years 5 months ago #122692

I've completed the repainting of my '60 Merc 800. Now I can start putting it back together. I sandblasted everything but the lower unit with 80 grit media. I used paint stripper on the lower unit as it was already assembled. I used PPG two-part epoxy primer with PPG Concept paint.

Wow! Looks great. I had started...and stopped...and started....and stopped, stopped redoing my '60 Merc 300. Would love to hear from you what timer and paint you used and your process of painting. Also, what kind of paint stripper you used. I tried some (forget what it was called) but it hardly dented it.

Oh how I love seeing people do good work, the originals never looked so good!

I was all excited to receive my three rattle cans of Wimbledon white to repaint my '62 700...until I saw the beautiful work you have done here..... Looks amazing. Do tell what kind of spray system you used on this - really fantastic.

Thanks for the kind words.
I used the little gun on the right. Its a $50 made in Taiwan auto parts store special. I shot the primer and the color with it. Sprayed decently at 20 PSI at the gun. Paint is PPG DCC Concept, two part polyurethane, one shot deal. Not a base coat/clearcoat paint. Primer is PPG DPLF epoxy primer.
The paint stripper I used is called Aicraft Stripper. It still took a couple of applications to do it.
