Cabin fever is always an issue this time of year, anybody want to share some stories or pictures of Mercury related winter projects that you have on the go? It would help to ease the burden on the rest of us and provide a little inspiration to dig into our own projects as well! Spring is not far off believe it or not.

Beautiful work as usual Mr Bernard!!! I love the reel collection as well, a beautiful touch. Hope the wrist heals up soon!

Lol mine are frozen in the garage. Just bought an engine stand from princess auto to move my big inline to. I bolted it to the workbench and now have no room to work.

My 800 DR project. Pretty sorry looking so far...
Progress being made. I figure if I can't save the lower unit, the project is pretty much dead. Started with the busted skeg, somebody was inside before me, left out a few parts, like a bearing race and a spacer.

Looking better

1957 Mark 55. A true labor of love...and a wallet drainer for sure.

And where I started

I love the lower end mount you made so you can work on it. Genius!

I am restoring a '63 Merc 1000. Just sent the upper and lower cowl and the mid section to the blaster today. Ordering the paint, medallions and decals from NY Marine. Talking with Dr. Frankenmerc about a new lower end. This dog won't hunt.

I made that originally for a Volvo Penta 270 outdrive. It fits just about any outboard lower, too.
That's a crusty lower. Mine had a couple chunks missing like yours does. I had my welder build them up, then I reshaped the metal with various abrasives and cut in the threads (very carefully) with a Dremel with a cutoff wheel. Gave new meaning to the word tedious... Good luck with your project.

That lower unit is beyond economical salvage, but you can save the guts for a spare lower. The good Dr.F should be able to fix you up, he does brilliant work.
