Hi Guys,
I'm kind of new to the Merc scene and trying to learn here. I bought a nice 1957 mark 55 that I'm working on. Where can I get carb kits, impeller, Cap and rotor, points, plug wires...Etc. Is there a good supplier out there you guys would recommend? Someone or someplace that has parts for the old stuff and is well versed in them?

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff all can be had on ebay. just clean the cap and rotor with hot soap and water then rinse with HOT water and blow dry. clean points and change the condenser. will save hundreds of $$$$$$.

I buy most of my parts from OldMercs.com

store.oldmercs.com/category_s/130.htm

Or Iboats.com

www.iboats.com/

So Far they have been good to order from.

Thank you guys. This will be my first 4cylinder Merc referb so I'm sure to have many questions along the way. On the fuel pump, do you rebuild these? Is the diaphram kit for that purpose? On the J/E motors we just chuck them and get another. Also, flywheel nut torque?

Is that one going to land on the transom of your Zip Travis? I can't help but notice how well that will go with your interior color.

Hi Jeff,
To pick-up on the magneto advice, I certainly agree, but I would advise that you at least carefully check the magneto rotor shaft sealed ball bearings, and the ball bearing just below the timing belt pulley. The timing belt likely can be rotten if it is original. The flywheel nut torque is 65 foot/pounds. We hope to have a 65 year old business in the coming New Year, so we feel that know Mercurys quite well, as we were a Mercury dealership for 50+ years. Please send us an e-mail if we may can help.

Regards,
Joe

Jeff,

No I have a Mark 58e on my Zip. Just building this one due to my Classic Mercury disease!! If you don't have it yet you'll get it. I have a link below unknown to me I entered my Zip in the Hessel Boat Show in Michigan this year my 1st entry didn't take home any trophies but looks like my Mark 58e received some attention it made this magazine. Motor runs wonderful on my Zip and tops out around 33mph.

I already have the disease Travis.... It's just hard to find them in my neck of the woods. I'll trip over 49 Johnsons and 50 Evinrudes before I find one classic Merc for a fair price.
