TOPIC: interchangeable parts

I have a 1963 mercury white 500 but it has a long shaft. I have access to bring home more old mercury motors but the next year is 64/65 500 all black . than a red striped 500 don't know yrs. next is a blue striped 500 don't know yr. are any of these with a short shaft be interchangeable with the white one? I was advised on here in an earlier post that I needed a short shaft for my beeline boat. if these won't work I can bring home mercury 650 black or a 90 hp black.there are 10 to 15 motors on racks all mercurys an one yellow hooded with a g on it. I can bring them all home [short of of my wife leaving me] and this winter sort out the junk. thanks for any help.MARK

5oo's changed in 65 so the 64 will interchange part for part with the 63 white 500.
