Having trouble aligning the neutral in the control box to neutral on the engine.
It`s missing 3/4" on the cable for a perfekt match.
Tried to unscreew the cable end and the box and engine but can`t get it perfekt.
Very hard to find neutral on box, You must force it it in to neutral by ear and the rewerse is hard to connect.
Sounds like hacking a time before engaging.
Having a restored teardrop control box for my Mark58-59 when it`s restored for the next season, don`t want to use it now.
Perhaps the last solution.
Having a square newer box now.

Yes there is a rollr in the box, but due to the not comparing neutrals of the box and engine there is nearly impossible to feel if the box is in neutral or the engine.
There is no more adjusting to do eiter the box or the engine.
Going to machine a 1" longer extension and se if that works.
Picture shows inside lowerhouse.

Getting the cntrol box to work nice whith out the cables. :)
Getting the cables to work nicely at the engine. :)
Putting it together, not working.
Sounds like metal grinding in the box, worn out? :woohoo:
Ripped the box and cables and tossed them as far as possible.
Now installing the teardrop box, man if this doesn`t work.

Man what a different, works like a dream.
Everything in position, neutral drive and reverse.
And the small extra gas handle really helps.

Hmmm, this is going to be a one man discussion I`ve noticed. ;)

I'll respond!!!

First, that is a nice looking 35. Did you do all the work? Were you using new cables? I need a source for new cables as mine are really worn out.

I ordered teleflex cables for mine, easy to do. Forget where I got 'em, but they didn't cost much and work (and look) great. I think I just googled 'em.

Yess, Teleflex was used on the not working box.
Did not like the red plastic parts on the cables.
Also felt that the flex cables are a bit weak, easy to bend.
Used the original that came whith the tear box, like em better.

Yess, all the work (taking apart for blasting painting new bearings seals and so on, except nothing inside engine.
If it works fine I don`t mess whith the beast.

So you did use the telefex cables at first and they worked? I thought the typical problem with new cables is that they don't have the correct ends on the engine side....

Hi Peter,
I think what Sten is saying is that he used the Teleflex on the 2-Lever Quicksilver control. This is doable with parts from the old 2-Lever cable to transfer. In Frank's case, he has the 1965-1979 MerControl, whos cables are readily available. Sten used old cables for the 1960-64 "Teardrop" control (as you have). I have not seen anyone yet, other than jury-rig, new cables to these controls. That said, if the BRP/OMC brand cables have a trunion which will unthread (I have not checked on this brand, only some aftermarket brands), then with (2) new cables (one would be the next size larger) and an original Mercury cable for components, then one "new" cable could be created from the three. If you would consider us, we may can supply some nicer used ones, depending on the length wanted.

Regards,
Joe

Yes the works very nice, but as I said I prefer the old ones.
The old ones was in very good condition.
Easier to adjust.
The new cables where bought in a regular marine shop.
Didn`t use a quicksilver box but a newer square box.
