For years I couldn't figure out why my '82 Merc 150 leaked so much gas Straight out of the carbs. I figured it was the floats so I adjusted them according to the book. What I didn't realize was that they were virtually water-logged. They were porous and had absorbed a ton of gas and just sank. At the beginning of the season it ran great, but as the season wore on the engine ran poor and went downhill fast. Last year I had to tow it to the launch.
After replacing the floats and following the book the motor now runs scary good. We were doing 40 in my 24' pontoon boat last night.
See the new float up top and the older floats next to it.
Just thought I would share the experience.
Thanks to Joe Poole at fergusonpoolemarine.com/ for the hard to find floats

Or dry them out by placing them in the sun for a day or two and coat them with fuel proof model airplane dope, or super glue.

I give them two coats.

great comment Texan. The guy at Sea Way Marine told me could me to do that, but to be careful not to put too much weight on them.
