I got this 700 DR about 7 years ago. I think its in pretty good shape except the wiring and general crustiness from sitting around for so many years.

Ive been collecting bits and pieces and decided to tear into it to make sure its all good inside. When I got it it had an even 135psi per hole.

Well, I might be hozed.... Opened it up tonight. Every journal shows signs of water. 3 of them are pitted badly. I think this motor was under water possibly before I purchased it. All spark plugs look used and normal. No steam cleaning action, which you would see if it had a water leak.

Yup, she got "steam cleaned"!

Maybe check with Doc Frankenmerc, he probably has a decent 70hp Dockbuster crankshaft kicking around. At least the pistons and rods are commonly used in 700 FGS models and 44-cubers.

Anybody framiliar with these hair line cracks by the exhaust ports? I think Ive seen them before on 44 cube powerheads.

Are they harmful?

Now imagine if you had tried to run that thing, as many have tried before. Boom!

Never, ever assume a barn find "just needs an impeller" and try to start it up without a teardown and inspection, you are asking for it in spades if you do. Sadly so many ruin a perfectly rebuildable engine by taking the cheap and easy way out, glad to see you are one of the few that does not. Good on you, now you will have an wonderful engine when you are done and be proud of the results.

The wonderful thing about this hobby is people come out of the woodwork to help. Several people are digging thru their stash to help me out.
