I'm running what I think is a 1962 model. It is a Mercury 1000. I'm trying to find what the weight of this motor is. Anybody know?

I was going to say 240 or so, but it is not as heavy as the post 1965 models, which were larger and heavier in every way. More like 285 for one of those, brutes to lift.

All I know is the older I get, the heavier these towers get!! My '77 1150 is about 300# and my '63 850 is about 240#.

240+ id guess. My 65 650 was 240 on the bathroom scale. I would assume the 1000 would be more.

I think mine 60 or 62 merc 700 can't be that heavy .I'm a small guy 125 lbs and 5'4 I can move it in and out of the van if I hold my breath and really try to move it of the ground I know I'm weak so I'm very curious how much it weight.tomorrow if I remember I'll do this test.

Here's an old post from John's Merc board, maybe that'll help. I remember when I could dead-lift a 300 lb 1350 Inline off the transom, those days are long-gone!!!

"My son and law I and I needed some exercise so we put several engines on the bathroom scales tonight. All results are for short shaft unless otherwise noted. All engines are complete, but the two with * are unrestored, so I can imagine 3-4 lbs of DIRT/CARBON in/on them. Only the merc700 has not been run. In all cases props are removed but prop nuts and washers are included.

merc800E with speedmaster (15-inch) 225-lbs
merc800E with normal unit (DR) 233-lbs
merc700EL (DR) 208-lbs
merc600E 189-lbs
merc400S 151-lbs *
mark 78AE 196-lbs *
mark 75E 178-lbs
mark 58E 152-lbs
mark 30 (no tiller) 114-lbs

Note that in most cases the weights are greater than those advertised. I do not find this surprising.

The merc600 l/u weighs 2-lbs less than merc700 which weighs 2-lbs less than merc800. All short shaft. I believe that the short shaft gearcase and midsection is about 5-lbs less than longshaft, of which about 1-lb is the shaft itself. I'm glad we lifted the 800 first."

I weighed my 1961 800 Full Gear Shift with short shaft - 247 lbs.

Smaller displacement motor than the 1000 (?), but a data point nonetheless.

The Merc gods are smiling upon your hobby that's how!! I made the mistake of moving a 1115 by myself one time off a transom no more after that and I'm in my mid 20's that's an accident waiting to happen!! A much smarter and older gentlemen has shown my the light of a cherry picker I only move them without when absolutely have too. IMHO
