I need to get floats, carb kits and fuel pump diaphragms for my motor.

I'm absolutely struggling to find the parts I need. I've given up twice so far. Often they reference a serial number which I have no clue. I have WMK-4 carbs from a 1971 1350 as far as I can tell.

The float numbers are apparently 8673 for oem floats.

I have been looking for OEM carb kits and fuel pump diaphragms. I am not sure if the sierra parts are okay or not.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks so much.

Joe Poole at Ferguson-Poole, an advertiser here on the forum, has always been real helpful to me, both for parts and advice. Long family history of boat racing as well as marine parts. See his ad at the upper right of this page. I'd try Joe first.

In the past I've also dealt with Master Tech Marine in Fla. I think that's where I got the fuel pump kits and carb kits for my Merc 650. The kits were Sierra and worked out fine for me.

The serial number should be on the plate riveted to the transom bracket. Most merc dealers will ask for the serial number. Nothing wrong with the sierra parts. Actually for carb parts I would stay away from any original carb kits, the rubber in them will not stand up to todays fuel. In this case you are better with aftermarket.

Thanks everybody, very helpful. Does it matter what brand needles/seats I use? That was really my concern.

My 135 is actually a 115 with a reed/carb etc.. swap that was done before I got it. I know the carb model numbers but not the serial of the motor they came off of.

As long as the needles/seats are comparable I'll just quit worrying and order some parts.

Thanks again.

I have a number of sources. If one doesn't have it one of the others usually do. And the advice on carb kits is good. Get an aftermarket kit that has new gaskets and other parts. These new fuel formulations will eat the old stuff.

I usually first check with the local Mercury Marine repair shop. Often the Mercury repair people can get the part for you, but of course they will most likely mark it up. If they don't have it, or say they can't get it, try;

West Marine (They have a lot of engine parts made by Sierra. I have not had a problem with any Sierra parts)

Iboats.com

www.ebasicpower.com/c/ALLFUELkits/Carburetor+Kits+%26+Gaskets

www.marinepowerusa.com/

Summit Racing www.summitracing.com/ (especially good for distributors and other ignition parts)

Go2Marine www.go2marine.com/

If you do an internet search on your part you can usually find some one who carries it. Most of these people can cross reference the Merc part number to their own if you give them the part number, but you will probably have to call them and talk to a real person.

Joe has always treated me like I standing in front of him. Many conversations on the phone keeping my 1962 1000 going. Good luck.
