hi all, i just got a rocket and plan on fixing it up over the next few months. i'll have the deck off this weekend and then start on the stringers, as i found out they are soft. the transom seems real solid, but will check that out also. the motor is a 1962 75 johnson that the p o said was stuck, and i found out it is not stuck, but the control cables are. really does not matter as the 75 is to big for me, i'am planing on running my 50 hp merc and look for a period correct motor down the line. so i'am listing the 75 on the glassifieds, whole or parts just let me know if you need anything. wish me luck and i'll be on the water next year. thanks frog

i got some work done on the rocket today. we had our 2 1/2 year old grandson over for the weekend so did not get started on the boat until after he went home and i got some grass cut, i'am going to have to make my yard smaller.lol. i got the motor off and all the controls, wiring ect. and got the deck loose, now just have to get 5 guys to help lift it onto one of my other trailers. transom is solid as a rock and only looks like 2 bad stringers. will know more when i dig into them. i was reading about the peanut butter, is this what i would use to set the stringers in the floor with? here are a couple of pic's for you of my progress. and by the way, the 75 johnson is for sale, complete or parts. let me know what you need and make an offer. frog

The transom doesn't look to bad to do. I'm sure you will have it fixed up in no time.

Thanks for the update.

hi all, just got in from working on the rocket, started to strip down the inside of the hull. i have a soft spot in the transom about 6 by 8 inches but not square, so out it comes. and was wondering if you could use the seacast method for the floor stringers? i have 2 of them that are soft, and they extend under 2 floation compartments that are glassed on to the hull, would be a heck of a job to cut them out and have to reglass them back in. but if so i will do that. i promise i'll take some pic's tomorrow . good nite for now . frog

Frog,

Stupid question, but don't those compartments usually have foam in them?

littlefin, my thoughts also. the front one had water in it, now i'll have to find out how it got there. and the back one does have foam, but is water logged and black. the rear will have to come out for the transom r&r for sure. i guess the front will be easy enough to do, just more glass and time.mite as well do it now then wished that i had done it. how is your boat coming along? haven't read anything in along time about it. take care buddy. frog. and thanks for painting my boat for me. frog

Thanks Frog. My boat is getting wet every chance I get. The wife and I are still working some of the bugs out of it, but for the most part we are just using it and enjoying it.

thanks littlefin and bob, just got in from the garage and washed off some fiberglass dust. got a few pic's , did not get as much done as i hoped to do. i did get the front and rear floation chambers cut out and the motor well. i took out over 100 lbs of water logged foam from the rear compartment and at least 30 lbs of soaked plywood. now i can lift the back end of the boat off the trailer by myself. i'm planing on putting in a piece of pcv pipe from the center to the transom for the drain plug, as it is in the center of the boat now. just trying to get ideas in a row and writting them down so i don't forget. hope to have the transom out tomorrow nite. here are the pic's. frog

hi all. i got the transom out tonite after work. it was still real solid, just acouple of rotted spots were the p/o beefed it up for the 75 hp johnson. if he would have left it alone it would have been good to go. so now i'll get the stringers cut out and check to see if the keel is solid or not. then the fun part begins, grinding the fiberglass smooth. i did find out that duct tape works good to get the iches off of your skin.lol here are a couple of pic's of the transom. i took it out in pieces as it was to solid to remove whole. frog
