And it goes on. Margie found more spots to fix.I decided to drill the holes for trim. Cleaned and painted trim. Put on last few coats of paint.

I had to get it out of the shop. Out in the Sun. We missed a couple of spots. So I decided to temporarily install trim and windshield. This allows me to remember what I am missing and need.I could just wet sand some runs and dry spots buff and call it done but.....Why not try a little harder. Plan is to now work on hull and after the top and bottom are connected then I will address any problems. If not for Margie I am sure this would never get done.

Thanks for the very nice comments. Just met a true boat guy originally from Minnesota. He saw the Playmaster and understood and smiled as I told him the lengthy process.

As "The Guy You Got It From" I'd just like to point out that you have the boat because I saw all of this grinding torture ahead of us. It was our favorite fin boat of many project boats we had. I could also say that the way she looks now is "the way we saw her in our heads when we looked at her. As a survivor of the Flood of '93, I'm sure she's happy about her makeover and legalization. Hope to see her in the water this year. Be sure to call us for the maiden voyage.

Glad you posted. After another long break we plan on pulling hull out today to start sanding some more, UGH. Something so small is so big.

Did contact Todds Canopies to get an estimate for windshield.

Dave, I had a new windshield made for my JetFlite by EDS Plastics in South Lyon, MI (Near Detroit). My windshield looks similar to yours and has a compound curvature with both the wraparound sides and a curve as viewed from the side.

I gave ED the old windshield, in two pieces, to use as a pattern. The result was a perfect copy. He also polished my frames for me and provided some neat mounting screws. The cost was $ 600.

I do not know if it is feasible for you, based on your location, but I can highly recommend EDS for anyone needing a plastic shaped windshield.

Finally back at it. Bought a gallon of slick sand a polyester based filler. Ground down more spider cracks. Maybe today I will stop sanding bondo and live with any waves and faults. I can then finally seal floor. I think top color might be Ocean Blue.

Lather rinse and repeat. Transom needed to be straightened. Keel will remain with all of its imperfections. By chance I met a high end auto restorer. He loaned me some of his flexible blocks and then showed me how to use them. I said screw it and try again for some perfection on bow. At some point I will live with its character or I will break my glasses!!!

This is how I want my boat to look. Smooth as glass and shiny wet when dry. Some how a small boat is bigger and harder then all the other things I work on.

I could have re primed many more times. But I have to be able to move this. I have this sealed in epoxy. If I want I can address any issues that might bother me later. It does not look that bad.

Hey Dave,
If you don't mind me asking, are you permanently re-located or do you still have a place up here in Lincoln land? Will I need to make the long trip sometime to see my old boat or do you plan to bring it back up here for the Beloit Show someday? (which by the way is really great now at the new location, The Star Zenith Boat Club.
We're really gonna miss your duck hat if you don't come.

Last Amphicar I painted I used 1962 Dorsett blue. The owner wanted his Amphi and boat to match. I liked it so much that I finally made my color choice. I pulled boat back out and inspected for imperfections. So one more round of filling and sanding.Yellow tape are spots I am not happy with.

Great color choice Mr. The Wave. A similar color is the hit of the year on Bill's Samoan ;) . Since you've given up the Illinois River mud for salt water, here's a suggestion.

EcoPoxy UV Totally organic epoxy coating. Non toxic (mask only against particulates).

ecopoxy.com/products/ecopoxy-uvpoxy-kit

and the blue pigment to add ( after experimenting ).

www.fibreglast.com/category/pigments

The epoxy is waterproof, unlike fiberglass resin, and more salt resistant.

The ecopoxy folks were running endurance tests in Florida and ( since they are very science based, will have all the stats one of these days.

I plan to try it early next year.
