Dave, I haven't given up yet so don't you. The Herters is 99% done, just have to do some final sanding and polishing/buffing on the top side. Right now it is sitting on the trailer at my local Merc dealer getting a tune up. It will be there for about 3-4 weeks. Going on an RV vacation with the wife, heading east to Nova Scotia and Maine. I told the mechanic to take his time. He is storing it in his outbuilding so it's not sitting out in the yard with other boats. Found out that the motor is not really a mark 58 but a mark 55 in wolf's clothing. Someone put a different powerhead on the mark 58 case.
Looking forward to YOUR progress and like always we need lots of pics of course.
I think this might be one of the last pics I took. I did have it in the water last week trying to mess with the motor, that's when I knew it needed professional attention
Thanks for following.

John, love to stop but there is so much to see up in this area and so little time, Have to be back in Green Bay on the 21st so the 20 yr old Ford 460 will be flying on the freeways for two solid days non stop when we leave the area. PS, the price of gas up here is anywhere between $5.20 to $5.60/gal. I get a hair over 8mpg so you can do the math :(
Later buddy.

Been awhile since I posted on the rebuild. Finally got the boat/motor back from the local Mercury dealer who got the engine up and running perfect, had to replace one fuel line.
The baby is now listed on Craigslist and Ebay for all the world to see.

A couple of reasons. Now that the rebuild is done I've accomplished another "project" and now move on. The love of my life says I can only have one toy other than her and I have to admit (waterwings can verify this) the woodie in my avatar is my baby. Once the boat is finished it will never get better so it needs someone who will use it and not let it sit in a garage for another 50 years. She was rebuilt to be used as a daily driver. Who knows there might be another classic sitting alongside the road somewhere just waiting for me to drive by. It is a hellava ride doing a priject like this and not a cheap one either. If it sells I'll be lucky to break even on parts and materials but the experiance of having a new group of friends like you fellas is priceless. The beer and Old Nr7 were expensive too :)

(waterwings can verify this) the woodie in my avatar is my baby. /quote] Yep Cal I can verify that. Don't get me wrong guys. We/I love our glassics but there's just something about a woodie. I grew up around woodies and being a wood working guy it's hard not to love a woodie. I still love my glassics also and all the friends I've made here, wouldn't have it any other way!

Hey humble Bob:) I really do love the glassics also, less bother, less maintenance and a lot lighter to towing not to mention a soaking period. It's with a tear that the "fin" will be gone, I see that someone hit the reserve price and will have a ball on the water. It is a head turner just pulling it down the highway.

And at a heck of a deal, IMHO! Only 8 hours left, hope the "snipes" (?) kick in at the last minute and do you a little better Cal. ;)

Mark, I am a sniper on eBay. I did it once when I still had dial-up when I bought my woodie, that was an eBay purchase. Believe me dial-up connections are not what you want for eBay sniping. Since I have the high speed now it's a piece of cake, wait for the last three seconds and push the button or... do the auto bid with a price you know no one will top.
Well, gotta go and do some polishing.

Mark, one thing I've learned from experiance that nothing is sold until the money is in your hand. The buyer has 48 hours to put the deposit in PayPal and then we work out the transportation and final details at a later date.By this time next week things should be different. Can't make plans yet.

Bob, bad weather heading for south east US, better buckle up.
Had a slight tear in the eye this afternoon when I saw the fins heading south. Never really got to take it on the water but it sure ran good in a garbage can. The buyer gave her a "checking out" like you would ... I'll leave it go there. Time to close down this thread and maybe start a new one, already got something in my sights. I plan on taking the woodie out this week, maybe Friday evening, kicking back and taking a slow cruz, might even bring along a fishing pole.
Thanks to all who helped me along with this project.

Cal, this thread has to be one of FG's best ever. Fantastic, like reading a good book. Replies and posts alone tells the story. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Absolutely beautiful job on the yellow fish. Being a Gator fan, nice touch on the trailer fenders.

IMHO, after all the hours and hard work you have put in her, I would have at least taken her out for at least the maiden voyage. You deserved it the first ride. Just saying.
