TOPIC: 1960 Humber with a 1961 Evinrude 40 HP

1960 Humber with a 1961 Evinrude 40 HP 8 years 4 months ago #123769

The Wife decided the 1960 G-3 Center Deck would have to wait a year as this Humber is a whole lot closer to being seaworthy. I've got the engine parts to pick up on Saturday (impeller and carb kit) and should have that done within a week. The bottom is newer having been done around 2010 but the deck is rough. I think we'll sand it down and recolor a nice seafoam blue or green. That's the Wife's call as is her name, SueSeaQ. I claim no responsibility for that choice :) Can anyone recommend a good hull paint that I can apply myself with a compressor and paint gun ?

Looks like a good boat! Those are some pretty extreme trim tabs, will you be keeping them or taking them off?

Thanks, we are going to enjoy her. As for the tabs I think I'll rebuild them. I can't help but wonder if they served a purpose while skiing or planing. They were pretty heavy duty before the rot set in. The guy who built this did everything else right so why doubt him now ? Hard to believe I brought it home for $500.00 cash. I'd like to find chrome adjusters for the tabs though. I've seen them in plain steel, these were painted. I don't think the originals were made from marine plywood or I hope not because that's what I'm going to use !

It figures. We haven't had one inch of rain in Southern Ontario this year total and since I picked up the parts for the motor yesterday it hasn't stopped raining ! My lawn can sure use it but I wanna get busy ! Sigh.....................

Thanks to you guys the motor is running beautifully ! She'll be in the water for August. Man are we ever looking forward to this. Turns out buying the Humber and getting it seaworthy was definitely the way to go this year both time and money wise. Come spring it's the G-3's turn.

Now that the motor's almost good to go I thought I'd give her a bath. All previous pics were taken as I got her from the farm were she'd been stored outside for 4 years since the previous owner died. She cleans up really well :) I'm going to paint the top half this year and the lower next. There's not a lot of body work to be done. Mostly surface stuff and I'll be sanding it down and fixing any flaws I find. Oh yeah, I found out it's a " REGAL ". Built in 1960 by the Humber Boat Company. I'm going to have to try and find some more out about this model. Is it in our libraries ? Anyway, here's some pictures of her clean. I'm redoing those home made trim tabs too. I like them for some reason and if they are functional they could be handy. I can't get the hardware in chrome but I found it in stainless. It'll have to do.
