TOPIC: fuel pump headache

fuel pump headache 11 years 2 weeks ago #95804

So, my fuel pump (AC pump for Volvo Penta B16 engine) must have been clogged in the valves. I took them out and cleaned them and then realized I wasn't sure which valve went where  So, one valve has the number 5 on it and the other has the number 10. I assumed the numbers represent pounds of pressure. The fuel pump is now working, but the carburetor is filling up and overflowing. I put the number 10 valve in the outflow (from pump to carb) and the number 5 valve in the inflow (from tank to pump). Should I just reverse them...now that I think about it, shouldn't there be more pressure at the intake and less at the outflow to the carb??? Help???

I would try switching the valves and see it that cures the issue. If not the next thing to check would be trash in the needle valve of the carb holding the valve open. Since you've been into the fuel lines, it's possible?
