TOPIC: aristocraft funliner

aristocraft funliner 14 years 10 months ago #945

i have a 1959 (i think) aristocraft funliner, and would like to know if anyone has any tips for restoring this boat. it has small cracks in the hull, none longer than 10mm and none wider than 1mm. the floor seems to be in good shape with no soft spots. the transom is what i'm worried about. how do i check it?

Hi Josh
I have a 63 funliner and i live in north georgia. Mine needs a little work. I am going to build new seats, pour in the transom and try to bring out the color in the gelcoat. It had a 75 johnson on it which was no good so I bought a chrysler 35 horse to replace the original.

There was one of these in Rock Island, Illinois before we left there in Dec. I wanted to always stop and see if he would sell it, but I never seen anyone arround and it was a bad part of town!! Are those windshields Glass?

Hey, North Georgia, I'm in Spartanburg, SC. Where do you guys boat? any shows or? What are the good places to boat arround here? We are new to this area. Just relocated from Quad Cities Illinois ( moline, rock island area ) where I-74 crosses the Mississippi River. Our whole lives we never lived any further than a few blocks from a river, now it looks like it'll be a little drive each time ? Any input greatly appreciated, Thanks, Later, Jim.

Hi Jim

There are some small lakes in close proximity to spartanburg like cooly, croft state park, lake bowen and lyman lake, but the best lakes in my opinion are Murray, Jocassee, and lakes marion and moultrie. Jocassee has excellent bass and trout fishing, murray has good catfish, bass, crappie, bream and more and both of these are within about 1 1/2 hours from spartanburg. Santee Cooper below columbia is a longer drive but is famous for big cats and bass with great crappie and bream fishing, worth the drive. Santee cooper consist of an upper lake (Marion) and a lower lake (Moultrie),and are connected by what is called the diversion canal. The canal connecting the two lakes is about 1 mile in length and about 300 feet wide and I think 20 to 30 feet deep. Some monster blue cats have been taken from this canal and is a great place to fish.

Happy boating

pour in the transom

Why...Why would you want to do that...?

got pictures...?

if your looking at the wood where the motor mounts at in the stern, that is a a plate inside the stern which is all made of fiberglass other than where the motor mounts at...and it is replaceable.

More so.

I am not sure if you poured a transom it would not fill between the hull and floor. You would need to put some kind of stop in?

Is this right?

I have never taken mine apart yet to see if the transoms void is part of the void that's between the floor and hull.

Hello Steve1961, I was wondering if you had any closer pics of the trailer emblems. You don't see any original wesco trailers any more under those boats. I still have mine, but it's been remodeled a couple times.

Josh the biggest worrys for these boats is the windshield and the deck textures being damaged. The floors won't rot..all fiberglass with corrugated fiberglass stringers. The transom can at the top because there is a 6" tall wooden core .
