Two questions actually. One, I believe Glasspar and other brands used a paint called Zolatone for their interiors. Anyone know if this is a lead content paint? Second, I've seen reference to air-supplied respirators when sanding interiors. Has anyone used one, or even better, made their own? My cabin interior is a flaking mess. I plan to try a 3M wheel to clean it up but don't want to breathe in a bunch of harmful stuff.

yep...have used both full face and hood air supply...prefer full face, but both are pricy....do NOT use a gas powered compressor for an air supply system....also use enough filter in an electric compressor that you won't be breathing compressor oil....john

Hello Norm,

Glasspar did use Zolatone although not sure if the old stuff is lead based but more than likely is.

I invested in this setup when I did gelcoat and Zolatone last year. It is literally a breath of fresh air when spraying.

You can them find cheaper online rather than buying direct from axispro.

I have heard of guys putting them together using a bilge pump for the blower.

I use a paint hood I got used off CL. I had use my sand blasting hood

I use a small wet and dry vacuum for supply air. I have it in another room and PVC piped to the area. Then I plug a 1 1/4 flex Line (bilge pump line) to the PVC. I have 3 (but will soon be 5 or 6 ) places I can plug to

In warn weather take the suction hose that came with it and wrap it around inside the bucket and cut yourself a new intake hole for the hose to stick out of. Tape the old hole up. Fill with 10# of ice letting the end of the hose be below the ice. Not as good as a ref unit however on a 90° day it helps.

Thinking of getting a 5 gallon bucket or 2 and put the cooler down line of the fan.

And when I am blasting outside I do use the same rig to keep the dust out

You can get a lead paint test kit from the local hardware store or Lowe's or Home Depot if I remember right. I got one to check the interior paint on my 1960 Wagemaker and sure enough it was. Bought a special stripper for lead paint which makes it harmless when done. It wasn't cheap but worked great and the mush that was left was harmless. I think it was close to $70 for a 3 gal bucket. I used face respirator that was good for all chemicals etc. The filters are only good for about 48 hours once opened though. I wore googles and a long sleeved shirt, sprayed outside on a sunny day with no wind
and it came out great. Just my 2 cents. Oh yeah I'm very cheap. ;)

Great info and gives me a lot to think about. I'll definitely look for a test kit. I think I'll also be putting together some sort of forced air setup. I'm cheap too.

Bob, was that stripper called Aqua Strip?
