TOPIC: FINALLY 1960 Larson Sea Lion

FINALLY 1960 Larson Sea Lion 10 years 7 months ago #93201

I have been waiting most of this winter and this spring to pick up this Larson sea lion. I got it from a guy that bought it about 10 years ago for the motor and then left it sit in the back yard to die.

It was quit the nerve racking ride home, as it was about a 90 mile trip home with dry rotted tires and a nasty vibration from the trailer when you got above 50 mph. The boat made it back safely all except the upper windshield which decided to break in half, but it did manage to hang on to the boat by some miracle. It isn't really to bad of a lose though because I think it was home made anyways. It needs a tone of work and I don't really think I will be able to get to it until next year but at least I have the title in hand, and boat safely tucked away

Unfortunately I forgot to bring a camera with me when I picked it up and now it is at my fathers house about an hour away from me. So these are the pictures of how it looked this winter when I first found her.

Hello jetflite,

We have friends that have an original Larson Sea Lion. Not sure of the year but it is the convertible top model. They say it’s a great handling boat and with lots of room for the family and they love it.

Terry that is a really nice looking boat, I can't wait to go for a "million bubble" ride some day. I really like the steering wheel in the picture, unfortunately the steering in mine was replaced and there is an ugly black plastic wheel now. I will definitely have to do some thing about that down the road. I do like however that the steering is on the left hand side, I've never even driven a boat like that so that should be fun.

Its funny the guy that I bought the boat from knew nothing about it, he said I had told him more about the boat in 15 min than he had found out in 13 years. He was just glad to get it out of his yard, and happy that it was going to be taken care of.

On the to do list is
- new floor ( it looks like someone added another layer of glass over a rotten floor)
- new stringers (I assume)
- new transom
- new windows ( they are Plexiglas and cracked all over)
- fix the gel coat ( it is horribly crazed on the top cap)
- all new upholstery
- polish all the metal stuff
- rewire everything
- and see if I can figure out why the trailer vibrated so much

Once all that is done it should be a nice boat again

Neat Brian, I have always like the Sea Lion Cuddy. Back about 2006 we had a guy named Don from Northern California who had a sea mist green Sea Lion Cuddy. His was the first I had ever seen. As Bill stated it looks like you have the plan. Have fun!
