TOPIC: Bottom Paint Choice?

Bottom Paint Choice? 14 years 6 months ago #9032

I am restoring my 1959 Fiberglide runabout and I am repainting the topside with a coat of Imron, but I want to use a roll on bottom paint for the hull.

Can anyone recommend an easy to use roll on bottom paint that will self level and stand up to trailering?
I would prefer not to spend a ransom on the paint, but I would like it last more than a couple seasons!

I didn't use a roller, but I have used Interlux VC Performance Epoxy. It is relatively easy to put on and is sandable when done. I used it on the hull of my Tomahawk and sanded it down to 1200. It looks like gel coat.

Are you doing the Imiron yourself or are you having it done? I would love to do that to the topside of the Tomahawk. I won't spray myself because of asthma, so I would have to have someone do it.

DO NOT SPRAY IMRON without a respirator, it'll kill you. Don't even try it outdoors. The catalized urethane is nasty, it'll cure in your lungs.

Correction: Without a Fresh Air Respirator. Cartridge masks don't protect you from catalyzed urethanes.
