TOPIC: rich,s unknown boat

hi everyone getting ready to get a outboard for my boat soon and was wondering if any one has any idea what size hp and shaft size i need the transom is around 17" and also if anyone could let me know if it is a river, canal or sea boat if anyone could help i would be very happy many thanks rich
