TOPIC: Plastic work

Plastic work 12 years 1 month ago #78008

Built a new rear seat base and gas tank platform this weekend. Was all wood, now all plastic.

Was hoping for some boating weather over the weekend, but that is not to be. Was prepared with new registration stickers for both the trailer and the boat. Silver Lake (Perry NY) next weekend for the AOMCI wet meet there. Hope y'all have a great Memorial Day.

Looks GREAT Frank. I've been in the garage all weekend trying to put the '62 back together no that everything is painted.

Thanks Bob! Not much of a change in looks from the old plywood stuff, but ya can't have just painted plywood, doesn't work. Glassed stuff was okay (gas tank platform), but got replaced anyways. Plastic (like fiberglass) is less maintenance, better looking over time than the wood.

More to come tomorrow. Got some interior glass work to do, shouldn't take too long (yeah, right!).

We have had frost last three days. I love the looks of that shelf.

Lookin' good Frank! I think you'll be happy with the results, fix once and forget. I've been using it for over 15 years now, its a great material to work with. I just cut some pieces of 3/4" to replace the rotted plywood in some helm seats for the Whaler. Will take in this week to have new skins made.

You got it! This stuff worked out great, much easier to use, and very solid once I figured out deck screws are the key to fastening happiness. I stiffened the base today, counter sunk all my SS screws, and finished up in general. Back in the boat!
