TOPIC: just joined

Greetings:
I have just joined this website, having recently (1 week ago) purchased a 1969 27 foot Owens Flagship Express Cruiser. Vessel was surveyed yesterday and passed with flying colours. Hull is completely sound, gelcoat in very good shape, and with the exception of a few minor items, ready for cruising the 1000 Islands. Looking forward to chatting with other boat owners and learning more about other classic fibreglass boats. Are there other Owens owners out there?

Great looking classic cruiser Erik, congrats! Welcome aboard, and please share some more pics and news about the Owens when you get a chance. I believe we do have several members familiar with the line, I'm sure they would be glad to chat with you about your new vessel.

I too have an Owens, but it is a little different than yours. Mine is a 1959 14' Speedship. A bobber compared to yours.

i think have i can gladly say i am a old boat guy and we all are glad you found us and that you will come to find out this group is very giving of themselves and wanting to grow the awareness of the classics , the fellowship of like minds and always a ear to bend and a second thought for any questions you might have. browse the site , explore and keep a camera with you always on the water. we love a lot of pictures.

Mine is a '69. Got it for free, spent five years to get it to this point. I love the canvas over your cockpit. Have plans to do the same this year.

Erik, thanks for the kind words. Power is a 350 Chevy that I built. '84 Camaro block, .030" over, 10:1 pistons, balanced, ported and polished TBI heads, Crane cam and valve train, roller rockers, Edelbrock carb and intake. 325HP if I had to guess.I had a Crusader 260 for an organ donor for the parts to make it a marine engine. Borg-Warner VelvetDrive 1.52:1 transmission. She'll cruise 18-20 knots @ 10GPH, tops out at 28 knots.
I have seen only one other Concorde 27 besides yours. It was in a boatyard in Stonington,CT a few years back. It was almost as rough as mine was when I got it. What are you running?

Hi Larry:
Thanks for the reply. Great engine. Mine is powered with a Ford Windsor 351/Velvet Drive. I had a '61 Owens 27 ft Sea Skiff a number of years ago with the same power. Very reliable. I am interested to find out the fuel consumption. Probably not tuned to the degree your 350 is but these engines are definitely better paired with these boats than the 283s that I think were the choice back then.
