keel scratch repair 14 years 10 months ago #765

What is the best way to repair fairly deep scratches (missed entrance keel roller while loading onto trailer) in keel area of the bow of my fiberglass boat.

There are multiple ways to make that repair. Others may chime in ont how they would do it. No seeing the boat I am going to assume several factors. If they are deep but average keel scratches. I would first sand the area well If you have a dremel tool feather the edges around the scratch then clean. You can use Fiberglass jelly or Epoxy as a filler. Once the scratch is filled smooth and fair with 80, then 120, 240, 400. Paint or gel coat. Never use polyester on the keel, It takes so much abuse that it won't hold long and is easily knocked out.

Well there is my 2 cents... :silly:
Other shall chime in with there technique I'm sure
