TOPIC: Steering wheel painting

This is probably right up John's alley but I'll toss it out for anyone who refinished a wheel.
I have a plastic steering wheel that is currently really stained and discolored white. It's a rope design wheel with three spokes. One small crack in the plastic where the spoke meets the wheel part. What's the best way to prep the plastic? Sanding? Primer? Filler for the small crack? Enamel or lacquer?

I just refinished one that came out rather good. I sanded it then patched all the cracks with epoxy mixed with a sandable filler from West marine. Then I sanded it smooth and painted it with Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2x primer. I used that primer because it bonds to plastic. I then painted with spraycan enamel for color. It turned out looking great, but I cannot say how durable it will prove to be as I have not used it yet.

I have seen some real rough wheels restored. Ones that initialy
would be thrown away,, till ya hear the two spoke or 50's stuff can be $50.. Small cracks should be easy ,if not just primer.
.That ROPE wheel should be a GLASSPAR, or at least used on Glasspar boats.
