They are trying to compile serial numbers for Custom Crafts over on the Nickle City Classics page ( www.nicklecityclasics.com ). I'm sure they'd love to add your # to the data. So far, from what they have found, the Hull ID's appear to read as-

(Year)-(Month)- (Production #) - (Model)

Yours would translate to

13= 1963 5= May Hull # 2181 SS would be model designation.

the hull #'s appear to be consecutive- Each one built, regardless of model, was just given the next number. Of course, Mine is the ONE that doesnt fit :)

JOHN: GOOD NEWS that you found a MFG # , after all this time , maybe was under the motor. I am not sure every digit back in the early 60's of a quality / time stamp has meaning for Custom craft , but this was my breakdown ,, DAY , MONTH , Year (Sequence/time) Model name .
. 13 Day , Month 5 May , 2=1962 & 181 some sort of sequence to fool the competition .? SS should be for the Sun Ray , which is featured in the 62 mfg brochure. SR could be for the Sea Ray or Sting Ray.
CONGRATS on your number , makes it more valuable. . Glasspar had a early 60's code that made sence , LENGTH of model , 1st digit YEAR , Serial # & letter for STATE of production. Your 2 would also have been a Glasspar 1962 , A=Calif , V=Va, N=Nashville, tenn, but we are still not sure about the production of Custom Crafts in Virginia, and Florida.?

Here is the link to the 1962 C.C. brochure right here on fiberglassic. Maybe we have a better version literature than prior , but 1962 hull seems identical to 1964. Not like a Chevy car & changed year to year.

. 2nd " S " in the code is probably SPORTSMAN. My Tiger was "TS"

That's correct, "S" is for Sportsman. Same model I have, but mine is a few numbers before yours. Possibly it was a conversion to '64 model made after the '63 season boats were put out.

Kinda weird because mine was made in May as well, yet it is a '63 model.

John, It looks like some years they designated the Half Hardtop as SHH, and some years as just an SS.

Or, possibly they numbered the hull before they knew what top they were going to put on it. That would also explain why we have different decks, (mine a '63 and yours a '64), even though our hulls are only 60 numbers apart.

Another possibility, a mid-year change:

Yep, mine too. It was actually upside down so you could read it if you tipped you head over the transom.

Possibly mid year change. We'll ask Tom at the reunion.
