TOPIC: 1959 HURRICANE Runabout???????

About an hour ago, i found a 16 foot, 6' 6" across the widest portion of the beam, runabout that appears complete. - alas, i found NOTHING in the forum's library.
(except for a listing for a 14' Hurricane
runabout by CROSBY)

Does anyone know anything about this ($ 100.oo OBO) boat and/or its history????

in the process of doing some SERIOUS "cleaning out" of the HURRICANE, we found the following info on a plate, that was "covered-up" with "junque".
("junque" is that fancy French TRASH! = CHUCKLE.)

the plate reads:
HURRICANE PLASTICS CORP.
135 Harvard Street
Houston, Texas
serial# 1035





So, i MAY have found yet another TX-made "small or independent boatbuilder".
(fwiw, i have identified more than FIFTY such Texas boatbuilders, some of whom made only ONE boat, before closing their doors.)

this 16ft Deep-V boat WILL be RESTORED, IF i can find a picture of the interior to work from.
(FYI, i'm NOW looking for a suitable 1959 outboard motor to match the boat. - a FIFTY or SEVENTY-FIVE would be GREAT.)

Call Robert Holmes. His Dad owned Holmes boats of Houston and he may know something for in later years they made glass boats.

If not I have a meeting with Mike Helton of Helton Boats works next month (as to get as much info on his father's boats) and I can ask him

i talked to Robert for about 15 minutes about an hour ago & while he didn't know anything about HURRICANE, he referred me to another man in Houston who MAY.

Looking at the map, the shop was right down the St from the old Heights Armature Works.

I know a guy that worked for them and is now running his own co...I will ask if Helton does not know anything
