Dorsett Boats 12 years 7 months ago #57853

I am a new Glass boat nut.I`m in Aust. and have a Dorsett Catalina (Australian version "Caribbean Catalina') I would dearly love to know the Dorsett History of these boats and how they came to Oz.
Cheers Greg

Welcome aboard Gregjh, what a beautiful cruiser! We'd love to see some more pics of her. There's a pretty decent Dorsett section in the FG Library, have you seen it yet?

We have had a few folks stop in from Australia.

Some American boat manufacturers distributed to Australia, including Bell Boy and Power Cat. Would not surprise me if Dorsett was also imported at one time or another. May not have been a commercial venture either as an individual may have imported the boat.

The company that offered Bell Boy and Power Cat boats in Australia was as follows:
Freighter Industries Pty. Ltd. of Frederick Road, Seaton, Adelaide, South Australia.

You can see an Australian market brochure issued by that company at the bottom of the page at the following link: www.fiberglassics.com/library/Bellboy

Ok guys here are some more pict`s.
Looks a bit different now, what started out as a purchase with a small amount of work turned out to be a lot of work. The story goes, hull purchased early 60`s perhaps "62" and never fitted out, sold out of an estate, partially fitted out, purchased by me, being slightly anal about the finished product I have gutted the boat, repaired some dry rot in the cabin frame and floor section and have begun a full fit out. This will include a re-power with a 4cyl.turbo diesel engine. At the end of the day I will try to be mindful of maintaining the original look of the boat but with current technology. So when I launch it will be the Cat`s first look at the water. I hope it all works out.
cheers Greg

I have a San Juan and would like to restore the interior to original. I have not been able to find a head for one. If anyone knows of one not in use please send me an e-mail. I would like to purchase one. I also have a Sea Hawk that I need seat stands for. Thanks Gilligan

The original heads are against the law now because they pumped the sewage overboard , they did not have a holding tank .
