TOPIC: Suspending my Power Cat

Suspending my Power Cat 13 years 6 months ago #51230

I suspended my boat today and then set it down 3 palettes high in front, 1 in back. It was pretty easy to do. Need to replace plywood and carpet on trailer, sat outside too long, wood is rotten in back and carpet is shot from mildew. That is going to change now that I have a place to put the boat when I'm not using it. Needed the trailer out to do some work in it over the winter, mainly installing brakes, but a bunch of other stuff too.

2 more chainfalls would have made this much easier to do, but Gregg and his rope idea did the trick.

I love that boat. One day I will have a Power Cat, either a 14' to play with or an 18 footer to fish and boat with.

Is the boat and trailer heavy enough for brakes?

If I could, I would have brakes on every trailer I have. It's just a safety thing with me.

Because we drive substantial distances with this trailer, and because it has a 3500# axle made for brakes, I'm doing this one before next season. I was fortunate to get the drums turned for 20 bucks, a buddy gave me a hydraulic coupler, and all (I think) I need is brake lines and brake assemblies. Got everything left priced out at about 150 bucks.

Once this is done, my 700# tiny travel is getting brakes, but electric ones. It also has an axle set up for brakes (and had them when it came out of the factory in '79), just need the assemblies and controller for our tow vehicles.

Thank you Bob. Suspending the boat took maybe 10 minutes. Getting the plywood off the trailer took some time, but we got it done. Maybe 1 1/2 hour of effort. My poor old trailer needs lots of help!
