Looks like it'd be fun on smooth water. I never seen one of those that small before.

I used to have a popular mechanics book from the late 50's that had plans for what was, more or less, a knee board with the power head of a small outboard attached to the lower unit (mid section was removed)... It was pretty wild, appeared to be at least moderately dangerous- but probably tons of fun. I wish I still had that book- it was among the items that disappeared when I went to college and my parents decided to "clean out" my stash...

Minimax, SeaFlea - google minimax and you get a ton of hits:

including this Youtube clip:
(I love the commentary)

Had one when I was a kid - ran a five and a half horse Johnson on it until it threw a rod, then upgraded to an eighteen. Lots of fun, never knelt in it. Pushed the four gallon pressure tank against the transom, wedged my cushion in against it and used it as a seat back. My longest trip was an hour and a half, around Wellesley Island.

They were designed to be built from two sheets of 4x8 plywood and some framing stock. Plans are available.

Very popular in the mid/late 50's at hydro races. Not uncommon to see a trailer with three or four of them stacked side by side with Merc shorties hanging on 'em. Driver would wear a kapok life jacket, throw on a gallon of fuel and go out and race.

WOW, that is neat Bill. I'd be scared I'd get swamped.I believe if I was on it I'd be in a pond with no frogs to jump in and make waves. :) :) Reminds me of the 17' glastron vee with a 175 hp v-6 Merc I went in on with a friend one time. Every time you'd stop it fast, water would come over the transom.

I built a MiniMax when I was a kid. I think I had more fun with that boat than any boat I've owned since. Built it from plans that were published in Boatbuilder magazine. You can still download the plans for it on the web.

I made one when I was twelve with a little help from my dad. A 7 1/2 hp Scott Attwater powered it pretty well. Flipped it on my first voyage Easter Sunday in Dayton Ohio. Coooooold! Then when I was 35, I built amother one just from memory. It turned out great and I put a 18 hp Johnson on it. Lots of fun!
