TOPIC: disposable spray gun for gelcoat-thoughts?

I visited a shop nearby that does boat repair and some restorations. they are just finishing a flats fishing boat from about 1980, doing just as extensive a job as we'd do from a field find. It looks great.

The fellow who does all the spraying (paint and gelcoat) gave me a lot of good pointers. one was the gun he uses for gelcoat. It's a 3m gun with a disposable tip and cup, 1.8 dia, that he says is great. mess up, replace a $4 tip.

I know many of you spray gelcoat. Any thoughts? I've found them new for just over $100.

I have used the disposable blasters as well. They work pretty good if done right.

I guess nobody here has used one.

I'm ordering mine. I'll report back when I've used it. I have a professional who is quite happy to answerquestions or demonstrate, so I shouldn't get in too much trouble.

You also need the cup and cap that hold the disposible liners (used over) and disposible liners - I think single use.

Looks like that would be the slick set-up Austin, please let us know how it works out. Applying gelcoat is one of those "mysterious unknowns" for myself and many others, I'm sure. It'll be very interesting to hear your report!
