Hi guys. I am new to this forum but a member of the HAMB so think I'll get along well. Question is, what boat is in my avatar pic? It is an 18 foot bowrider with a Buick V8 but no vin or hull markings that I can find. I bought it online through a charity auction as a simple runabout for the cottage. When I picked it up I had no idea of the size of the thing but am smitten with the 60's design and trim. It was sold on a bill of sale and the auction house had no idea of the make other than it was a 1969. Any help in identifying this boat would be greatly appreciated.
Dan

Ok, thought I'd throw a pic of the motor and a perspective of it behind the Honda I picked it up with.

Not sure where the Honda pic went but I'll post another one. I will probably end up with half a dozen but "oh well"

Welcome aboard. Looks like you might have a Fabuglas on your hands.

Last year one of our neighbors was selling a VERY DEEP hull like that & it was called a RINKER,, or RinkerBuilt.. ,if it does not
match up to the Fabuglas brand mentioned above..

Show a pic from the back. That's an OMC Buick V6. Probably has a stringer model 800 hanging on the back.

Awesome response guys! The motor is a v8 and from my understanding it would be a 350. I will investigate the 2 aforementioned brands and get back to ya. I should of taken more pics before tucking it away and now it rests backed up to my fence an unlikely candidate for a rear photo.

The engine is obviously a small block Chevy V8 but if it's original, it's more likely to be a 305 or 307 CID, particularly with that 2-barrel carb. The marine fittings date it to late 1960's-early 1970's. The serial number on the front of the block stamped into the flat machined area near the heads will pinpoint the year/CID.

motor looks more like a buick v8, as the small block has the dist. in the rear, and this one is in the front, and the web for the bell housing is dipped and the chev has mounting bolt hole. frog

You're right...I stand corrected. I failed to notice the front-mounted distributor. I could see that it wasn't a nailhead and pretty much went by the Chevy-looking valve covers...stupid oversight. Buick made small blocks in 300, 340 and 350 CID. Can't tell them apart by looking.

They used a Buick 300 CID V-8 for 3 years, 66 thru 68 I believe.

I don't think that engine is original due to the valve covers and the home made breather hose bracket contraptions holding the hoses to the flame arrestor. There were also small block Chevies used starting about 67. I am no GM expert and don't know if the bell housing and/or exhaust manifold bolt patterns were the same from Buick to Chevy. My guess is that the original Buick engine had some type of failure and was replaced with a later Buick engine.

Also, the 400/800 designation was not used until 1978 when they came out with the thru hub exhaust mechanical shift drives. That should be full size 14" electric shift stringer drive.

Nope it is a Buick. Distributor on the front and the fuel pump on the opposite side from a chevy as well as the oil filter where a chevy would have the fuel pump. Second year of production for the Buick 350. Cool eh?
Thanks

Jim you could well be right about the motor not being original, in which case.....all bets are off. The condition of everything seems consistent age wise soooo....I assumed the motor was original. Having said that it appears the boat was freshened up at some point and therefore the motor may not be original. The Trident 220 came with a 220 hp option so it may be possible the Buick engine was the option. I will need to look harder to fing the motor options for this boat. Great info tho and thankyou!!. I restore autos as a hobbie as well and am working on a 28 Ford, 65 Barracuda, and a 68 Charger at the moment and am confident of what mid 60's original looks like. Love the design queues. Can't believe this site and hobby field existed and no one told me!

Hey Qdanj,

I had a '65 Cuda and am darn sad that I sold it. 273 V8 with the 4 speed stick. She was light and fast. Not much of a look and the back window made it a rolling microwave in the summer, but let's just say it had it very good points. Lots of interior room.

I once had the cousin of the "Bacaruda" 65 Valiant convertable. Had the slant six, one tough motor. Front suspension was tricky with the torsion bars. The rust belt took her down though. Lucky you.
