I am thinking of replacing the cable and pulley steering system I have on my 1959 Tomahawk Spirit. I have an 1984 50hp Johnson for power. I also want to keep the existing steering wheel that I have. The boat is not a restoration and never will be (thanks to some things done by the previous owner), but I want to keep as much of the authentic look as possible.

I do have some of the control problems referenced in another post. I think I can get most of that under control with the skeg on the motor, but haven't fine tuned it yet.

Any thoughts on what would be best option?

I just don't know if your old wheel will fit it. I'm running the Power Cat with twin 1962 Evinrude Lark IV with the original RideGuide system. Really like that too.
