TOPIC: Registering a Vintage Boat in NJ

Hi- im purchasing my first boat and towing it from PA. The current owner does not have a title or registration. Will I have a hard time getting a title/registration in NJ? Anyone have experience with this?

Don't know about NJ but I'm guessing you can write down the hull numbers from PA, hop on the net and call up the PA dnr they might be able to get you info on the boat and a copy of the title then you can reg it in NJ. Here in WI it depends on the size of the boat. anything under 16' just needs a registration card over 16' and you need a title.
Another thought is to just hit up the NJ dnr and ask.

jim, i can only speak for my trailer. when i went to register it, i showed them the prior registration. it had no serial # printed on it. they refused to register it. so i found a number on the coupler and used that. it is a part number from west marine. ron

Just shows to go huh? Use yesterdays winning lottery numbers, toss in a letter or two and you have a registration number. Beg or borrow some metal punch numbers that millwrights use, stamp your boat/trailer and go for it. DNR could care less, they just need something to fill in the blanks and trace the vessel/trailer in case there's a theft or accident. OH - don't forget they get MONEY for this effort.
